PSALM 119 VS. 9-11 SOAP Empty PSALM 119 VS. 9-11 SOAP

Today's study was really good.  I have read these verses so many times before, but today as I read, it really struck me that we have a choice in the way that our spiritual life goes. It is more a matter of the heart than it is anything else.

S:  How can a young man cleanse his way?  By taking heed according to Your Word.  With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me      not wander from Your commandments!  Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

O: * We have a choice.  Keeping our way pure requires action on our part.  We have to read and obey God's Word
        * We are prone to wander....
        * When we know the Word and are purposeful to think on it and hide it in our heart, we are less likely to follow our flesh into sin
        * being the pure and blameless person is not following a set of rules, but it is a change of heart...the heart choosing to follow after         God

A:  I can't be legalistic about rules and regulations, but I must be purposeful in having His Word in my heart and mind so a change of          heart can take place.  Following rules can only last so long, but true heart change can last for good.

P:  God, Your ways are perfect.  When I try to be a rule follower just for the sake of following rules, I fail every time.  But when I have      true understanding in my heart, I am able to maintain change.  God, change me to be like You.  to really hide Your Word in my            heart and to depend on it every moment of every day.

If you so desire, I wrote a little post about what we read today.  you can check it out at fishlicity.blogspot.com

I totally agree Felicity. When I became a Christian and began to learn what God desired for my life I began to do a 180 in my life and became a radical Christian. Many Christians...when I didn't want to do something they were doing...they would tell me I can't be legalistic. I hated that word and wanted to know more about and researched it. I found that it meant that...you do or don't do something to be able to go to heaven...well when you know God and what He desires and you choose not to do something because you know it would grieve Him than that is not legalism at all that is a heart to glorify God! I think if we spend more time reading His Word, spending time with Him, getting to know Him so that we know what grieves Him and what glorifies Him, and truly break for what breaks Him, than we can and will desire to do or not to do what He wills. Hence again "with our whole heart"!
